2008 Honda Accord Malaysia

Finally, Honda Malaysia has unveiled the 8th generation Honda Accord in Malaysia on 22nd Apr 2008 after the long marketing campaign. The 2008 Honda Accord is not sharing any similarity with its predecessor. It is not a facelift or enhancement but a completely all-new model, from the exterior right to the engine under the bonnet.

Honda Malaysia is bringing in 3 variants of the Accord to Malaysia with the price starting from RM 141,800.
1) RM 137,796 / RM 141,800 - 2.0l SOHC i-VTEC (154bhp)
2) RM 167,169 / RM 171,800 - 2.4l DOHC i-VTEC (171bhp)
3) RM 243,167 / RM 249,800 -3.5l V6 i-VTEC VCM (271bhp)
* VCM - Variable Cylinder System
* Prices are on-the-road (without insurance / with insurance )
* 3.5l is CBU from Thailand
The packages also comes with:
1) 3-years warranty 0r 100,000 km whichever comes first
2) 6-months free service or 10,000 km whichever comes first

Without the hefty tax, the prices in Langkawi are as follow:
1) RM 86,302 / RM 88,800 - 2.0l SOHC i-VTEC (154bhp)
2) RM 102,859 / RM 105,800 - 2.4l DOHC i-VTEC (171bhp)
3) RM 134,975 / RM 138,800 -3.5l V6 i-VTEC VCM (271bhp)

To give the Accord more sporty looks, you can opt for the Modulo kit at RM 5,300, which consists of front and rear splitters, side skirts and trunk spoiler.

The Variable Cylinder System in the V6 3.5l engine can switch between six, four or three cylinders depends on driving situation to reduce fuel consumption. Honda claims that the new 3.5l engine consumes 6% less fuel compared to the previous 3.0l engine. Wow. Bigger engine but consume less fuel. Thumbs up for Honda. To save your fuel cost further, all the Accord's engines are tuned to be able to run on low octane number fuel. So, no worry about government only subsidy only RON 95 fuel. You can even feed the Accord with RON92 petrol.

Exterior wise, the new Accord is wider and bigger than its predecessor. It is 75 mm longer, 60 mm wider that its predecessor.

The 2008 Accord available in 5 colour:

1) Polished Metal Metallic

2) Bold Beige Metallic

3) Nighthawk Black Pearl

4) Sparkle Gray Pearl

5) Alabaster Silver Metallic.

Interior wise, of course it is more spacious than its predecessor as well. In fact, it is the most spacious Accord ever. The 8th generation Accord has been classified as big car in US. To accomodates the large cabin size, the Accord is fitted with dual-air condition climate control. The Accord comes with audio system that can support MP3 and WMA files. Premium audio system is available in the 2.4l and 3.5l models. Don't think that Honda Malaysia will give you a lousy audio system in the 2.0l model. The audio system in the 2.0l is already considered very good for many drivers. Better audio system just to add more premium to the 2.4l and 3.5l models.

Besides the sharp look, performance and handling are always the selling point of Honda. The floor of the new Accord has been lowered to accommodate better handling. The engine and fuel tank also positioned at a lower positions. The new Accord is using Variable Gear Ratio (VGR) steering system for more precise and responsive maneuverability and better stability on high speed driving. The new Accord accommodates with small turning ratio to make parking this large car easier.

All Accord comes with 5-speed automatic transmission with Shift Hold Control which can select the gear more accurately especially on winding road. The Shift Hold Control will reduce gear shift up and down during cornering so that the car can accelerate faster right after cornering.
Drivers of 2.4l and 3.5l models can manually control the gear shift with the paddle shift gear mounted on the steering wheel to get the manual car's performance. So, if you want full control of the car as in manual car but prefer the effortless driving of auto car, the Accord 2.4l and 3.5l are for you.

Safety is something not to be neglected in luxury car segment. The Accord is incorporating the Honda's Advanced Compatibility Engineering (ACE) to minimize injuries to occupants during collision. Airbag is something that can be considered as must have for a car at this price range.
2 Airbags - Accord 2.0l
4 Airbags - Accord 2.4l
6 Airbags - Accord 3.5l

ABS with EBD comes as standard for all models. Additional to the 2.4l and 3.5l models is the Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) that can prevent lateral skidding and thus better stability during cornering.

Let's compare the all new 2008 Honda Accord prices with the rival models from other manufacturers.

  3. I haven't try Accord yet. If Accord NVH can match Camry, then Accord sure win. If based on looks alone, i think quite difficult lar.

  11. test drove accord 2.0 last sunday. steering wheel vibrate when air-cond kicks in. Same problem with previous version. Camry is better.

  12. why only compare Accord with Camry ? There are other players in this segment. Why not compare with Cefiro and Mazda 6. Mazda 6 2.5 is more value buy than Accord 2.4 and Camry.
Mazda 6 is only a few thousands more than Accord 2.4.

    Mazda 6 is 2.5 vs Accord 2.4/Camry 2.4.
Mazda 6 is CBU from Japs vs Accord CKD vs Camry CBU from thai

  13. Mazda is not popular in Malaysia. Resell value and maintenance will be a problem. Honda and Toyota will give you more peace of mind.

  15. hold your money first. Tan Chong is going to launch a new 2.0l executive sedan. price from 110k to 120k. much cheaper than accord and camry. TC boss say wan to capture 2.0l market segment.

  16. hi rd,

if tan chong bring in the 2.0L at the 110k to 120k range, it should be the Civic or Altis class and not the accord / camry class. there are different classes.

  17. TESTED YESTERDAY, THIS CAR REALLY GOOD, EXPECIALLY THE INTERIOR LOOK VERY CLASS, AND FEEL VERY COMFORT WHEN DRIVING IF COMPARED TO CAMRY, GRANDIS, TOYOTA WISH, MITSUBISHI LANCER AND TOYOTA ALTIS. BUT I WONDER THAT WHY THE USB PORT PLACED INSIDE THE CENTER COMPARTMENT? WEIRED RIGHT?! IT IS VERY INCOVIENIENCE FOR DRIVER! IN TERM OF PERFORMANCE, IT IS NOT BAD, IF COMPARED TO OTHER SAME CLASSES. I LOVED THE PADDLE SHIFT! EXTERIOR: THE REAR SPOILER SEEM WEIR RIGHT? LOOK LIKE THE UGLY HONDA CITY. LUCKY THE SIDE MIRROR DOES NOT FLOOW THE UGLY CITY AND CIVIC! OVERALL THIS IS A NICE AND GOOD LOOKING CAR! INITIALLY I BOOKED THE MITSUBISHI GRANDIS LAST 2 MONTHS AND IT WILL DELIVER IN NEXT 2 WEEKS, I JUST CANCELLED THIS MORNING AND FORFEITED RM2000 JUST BECAUSE HONDA ACCORD. PAID RM20K BOOKING FEE JUST NOW, AND IT TAKE TO DELIVER WITH NEXT 2 MONTHS! ACCORD LONG LIFE!!!!!

  18. hi ujinanc,

you have made a right choice. The Accord really beat all others in the same class. You won't regret with the RM 2000 forfeited.

  19. hi uninanc,
I understand why you are willing to let the RM 2000 booking for the Mitsubishi Grandis forfeited. The new Accord is really attractive. Ride comfort to physical appearance also superb.

we have mitsu buyer canceling booking because of Accord. Any Camry buyer canceling their booking because of Accord out there ?

  20. Honda Malaysia target to sell 600 units of Accord a month. 600 units a month for an executive sedan with the price tag of RM 141K looks like very ambitious but Honda Malaysia not only hitting the target but way way beyond the target of 600 units a month.

Honda Malaysia already received more than 5000 bookings for the new Accord one month after the launching. 5000 units a month is a shocking figure for a Japanese sedan due to the heavy tax on imported car in Malaysia.

  21. 5194 orders were received as of 25 May 2008

With this figure, this is really the Camry killer.

  22. i think the sales of accord will definitely slow down with the announcement of the new fuel price.

    ReplyDelete
  23. anyone plan to cancel order after the new petrol price annoucement.

    ReplyDelete
  24. people who can afford this car dun mind about the petrol price lar.

  25. Peogeot 407 2.0 Vs Honda Accord 2.0 Vs Toyota Camry 2.0, which one will you choose ?

Peogeot 407 CKD has dropped price to RM 125K.

  26. look at the price and features, 407 will kill both Accord and Camry.
