Mazda2 Sedan and Hatchback in Malaysia

The 'World Car of the Year' for Year 2008 has finally reached Malaysia shore from Thailand. Both Mazda2 Sedan and Hatchback are powered by 1.5-litre DOHC 16 valve engine which can produces 76kW / 103.4 ps of power and max torque of 135Nm. To maximize usage of the power produced from the 1.5-liter engine, Mazda2 gets Electric Power Assist Steering (EPAS) system which will not drain on power as of conventional hydraulic pump would have. Only 4-speed automatic transmission is available for Malaysian market.

In terms of rim and tyres size, the V-Spec gets 15" sport rims with 185/55 tyres while the R-Spec gets 16" sport rims with 195/45 tyres.

In terms of safety, Mazda2 scores 5/5 stars in the EuroNCap crash test. Other safety features are as follow:
1) ISOFIX anchors in the rear seat.
2) Dual Front Airbags.
3) ABS with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist (BA).
4) Front Ventilated Disc Brake.
5) Rear Drum Brake.

As in all other Mazda model, Mazda2 uses dark theme for the interior to give sporty feel. One innovative design for the interior is the slot at the top of the glovebox which allow you to slip in a map or document without having to open the glovebox. One little but useful feature missing from Mazda2 is "teh tarik" hook.
